This is one of the seizures that Raelynn had today. As you can see, she is sometimes fighting for breath during a seizure.
I know it can feel weird to “like” a video like this, but it really does help us to keep making these kinds of videos, which then inform parents who have questions about seizures.

Today, Raelynn was having a seizure while choking. This is fairly common for her, especially at the beginning of her seizures. Her seizures often begin with her tensing up, then holding her breath, then letting out an explosive yell. During this part especially, it’s important that we try to keep her on her side as much as possible so that if she has phlegm in her mouth as she did in this video, she doesn’t choke on it.
Sometimes, it’s possible that Raelynn will aspirate on some of her phlegm during a seizure, which will then cause her to have pneumonia. We can usually treat mild cases at home, but she has had to be hospitalized because of this as well. So we try to be extremely diligent about keeping her on her side when we can hear that she has phlegm in her mouth.
