Raelynn primarily has tonic clonic seizures. Tonic clonic seizures used to be called grand mal seizures. They are made up of two stages: tonic and clonic. During the tonic phase, she stiffens up and often holds her breath. During the clonic stage, she has several muscle spasms. We monitor her throughout her seizures, but especially when there’s more risk of her choking on her saliva.
